France Business Development - Global Learning Experience
If you have any questions, you can contact Liz Allred at: liz.allred@usu.edu
Join us in May 2026 for a unique, hands-on global consulting experience in the South of France. As a participant in the France Business Development & Consulting Program, you will take on the role of an international business consultant, collaborating with students from Utah State University (USU) and IAE Aix-Marseille Graduate School of Management to conduct research and analysis in support of Provence Promotion, the region’s leading economic development agency.
Before traveling to France, you will work virtually in cross-cultural teams to investigate industries, market trends, and investment dynamics that impact foreign direct investment and business expansion in southern France. This pre-departure phase builds essential global teamwork and research skills.
Once in France, you will continue your learning through on-the-ground business visits, executive discussions, and cultural immersion. Our program begins in Aix-en-Provence, a historic city that also serves as a center for regional innovation and international business. Based in Aix, you’ll engage directly with companies and gain firsthand insights into how this dynamic region attracts and supports global investment.
From Aix, we’ll travel to Marseille, the region’s economic engine and a major port city on the Mediterranean. Marseille is a key player in industries such as shipping and logistics, aerospace, renewable energy, digital and creative sectors, biotechnology, cosmetics and fragrances, and agriculture. Through site visits and company meetings, you’ll examine the region’s strategic positioning for global growth.
Next, we’ll continue to Nice, with a special stop in Grasse—the world’s perfume capital and a global center for fragrance innovation. While in Grasse, students will participate in a hands-on fragrance branding experience, applying creative and strategic marketing frameworks to develop and position their own fragrance brand. This activity offers insight into the intersection of traditional artisanal industries and modern branding, product development, and global market strategies.
The program culminates with student consulting teams presenting their strategic business recommendations to executives and key decision-makers from Provence Promotion and its partner organizations.
To round out the experience, students will enjoy a cultural excursion to the stunning Provençal hilltowns of Tourrettes-sur-Loup and Saint-Paul-de-Vence—two of the most picturesque and artistically rich villages in the region. This final day offers time to reflect on the journey while exploring the cultural and natural beauty that defines the French Riviera.
Through this immersive consulting experience, you’ll develop valuable global competencies, strengthen your research and analysis skills, and gain real-world experience delivering business insights in an international context.
