Meet the Application Requirements

Self-check to make sure you meet the minimum application requirements.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or already awarded a bachelor's degree
  • 3.0 or higher accounting GPA is strongly recommended*
  • 3.0 or higher GPA is strongly recommended on your last 60 semesters (or 90 quarter) credits*
  • Required course prerequisites
* Additional information may be needed if GPA is below 3.0

Complete Online Application

Applicants should complete the online application at https://gradschool.usu.edu/apply/. A non‐refundable $55 application fee is paid to the School of Graduate Studies Office. The payment is submitted online at the conclusion of your application. Concurrent students will apply online and pay the fee to the School of Graduate Studies Office the semester before they matriculate as a graduate student.

Letters of Recommendation

MAcc applicants are required to submit three letters of recommendation. The names and email addresses of the recommenders are entered directly into the application. Once the application is submitted, the School of Graduate Studies will notify your recommenders and ask them to fill out a recommendation survey. Recommendation letters cannot be reviewed unless they are submitted this way.

Additional Guidelines

  • Your recommenders must submit their letters of recommendation through the online application, which will be sent to their email.
  • Applicants are responsible for ensuring that letters of recommendations are received. This process is managed through the online application system.
  • If you have graduated within the last two years, two of the letters should come from faculty who are familiar with you and can make an informed assessment of your recent academic progress and success.

Prepare Transcripts

Non-USU applicants are required to submit official transcripts for each college or university attended. Transcripts accumulated on one record are not acceptable. Transcripts submitted as application credentials become the property of the School of Graduate Studies and will not be returned to the applicant.

  • Applicants must be pursuing or have already been awarded an undergraduate degree (or its equivalent) from an accredited college or university.
  • Please have the transcripts sent to the USU School of Graduate Studies Office:

  • Applicants who have graduated from USU do not need to submit a transcript.

Write a Statement of Purpose

A one-page essay of your career goals and objectives is an important part of the application and should provide insights into why you want a MAcc degree, why you would be a good candidate, and the benefits you anticipate receiving upon completion of the program.

Obtain English Language Proficiency (International Applicants)

International applicants who have not obtained a university degree in an English‐speaking country are required to take either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), International English Language Test System (IELTS), or the Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic).

  • English Language Scores (only one required)
    • TOEFL: Internet-based (iBT) exam score of 79 or paper-based exam score of 550. The institution school code for Utah State University is 4857.
    • IELTS: Score of 6.5 overall band score with a minimum of 5.0 on each subscale.
    • The Michigan English Test (MET): Score of 55.
    • Cambridge English Exam: Results of B2 First, C1 Advanced, or C2 Proficiency score of 176.

Applicants without an Accounting Bachelor's Degree

Applicants who have not completed a bachelor’s degree in accounting are encouraged to meet with the School of Accountancy graduate advisor, Devon Erickson, macc.huntsman@usu.edu to identify a list of undergraduate courses to complete prior to starting the MAcc degree.
