LCES is a unique opportunity for 100 students from 10 elementary schools (10 students from each school) to compete in various experiential learning challenges and leadership simulations. The top three schools are awarded prizes and the winner is presented with a championship banner to commemorate their accomplishment as the top leadership school in Utah. LCES presents an extraordinary opportunity for student leaders to learn from professors and USU students and to develop their leadership competencies.
“I thought it was really good experience for me. At the beginning, I didn’t want to do it because we missed a bunch of recesses, but then after, I realized it was making me a better person. I’m glad that our school got to do it.”
– Macie Green, 5th Grader - Woods Cross Elementary
On March 11, 2020, The Stephen R. Covey Leadership Center at Utah State University hosted the first annual Leadership Challenge for Elementary Schools (LCES).
“In sports, there are play-offs, but what do we have for elementary-age children in the arena of leadership?” said Jade Crown, teacher and leader of the Woods Cross Elementary School team. “If it weren't for this extraordinary experience to step up to the plate with other top-notch students, how else would they know of what they are capable?”
