Application Process

Meet the Application Requirements

Self-check to make sure you meet the minimum application requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 3.0 or higher GPA on your last 60 semester (or 90 quarter) credits
  • Official GRE or GMAT scores (Not required)
    • The institutional code for Utah State University is 4857 (GRE) or email scores directly to the MMIS office.
    • As the GRE or GMAT scores are not required, if you choose to submit them be aware that the minimum score of the 40th percentile in the quantitative and verbal portions of the exam are required.
    • Only the quantitative and verbal sections of the exam are reviewed as we do not review the analytical writing section.
      An application may be submitted before taking the GMAT or GRE.
    • Both tests are equally acceptable

Complete Online Application

Applicants should complete the online application at https://gradschool.usu.edu/apply/. A non‐refundable $55 application fee is paid to the School of Graduate Studies Office. The payment is submitted online at the conclusion of your application.

(Optional: Graduate Admissions Test)

You may optionally submit scores for the Graduate Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) as part of your application materials.  Only the quantitative and verbal sections of the GMAT and GRE are considered.

  • How do I submit my GRE/GMAT/MAT scores to USU?
    1. Register online to take an admissions test.
    2. Get a qualifying score (minimum scores should generally be in the 40th percentile for the verbal and quantitative sections)
    3. Have your scores sent (scores must be sent directly from the testing agency to the School of Graduate Studies; institutional code for Utah State University is 4857 (GRE) or 2273 (MAT).
  • Graduate admission test scores are valid for five years. If you have taken an entrance exam multiple times, the highest score will be used in the application process.
  • When submitting your application, you may record unofficial test scores, but official test scores must be reported directly to the USU School of Graduate Studies.
  • The MHR Program has accepted the LSAT, DAT, or MCAT in lieu of the MAT, GMAT or GRE. Please contact our office for specific details.

Letters of Recommendation

MMIS applicants are required to submit three letters of recommendation. The names and email addresses of the recommenders are entered directly into the application. Once the application is submitted, the School of Graduate Studies will notify your recommenders and ask them to fill out a recommendation survey. Recommendation letters will not be reviewed unless they are submitted this way.

Additional Guidelines

  • Your recommenders must submit their letters of recommendation through the online application, which will be sent to their email.
  • Applicants are responsible for ensuring that letters of recommendations are received. This process is managed through the online application system.
  • If you have graduated within the last 2 years, at least 2 of the letters must come from faculty who are familiar with you and can make an authoritative assessment of your recent academic progress and success.
  • We cannot review applications until all letters of recommendation are completed.

Prepare Transcripts

Applicants are required to submit official transcripts for each college or university attended. Transcripts accumulated on one record are not acceptable. Transcripts submitted as application credentials become the property of the School of Graduate Studies and will not be returned to the applicant.

  • Applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree (or its equivalent) from an accredited college or university.
  • Please have the transcripts sent to the USU School of Graduate Studies Office:

  • Applicants who have graduated from USU do not need to submit a transcript.
  • In rare extenuating circumstances USU allows unoffical transcripts to be used for the review of applications. Offical transcripts will need to be presented upon arrival to campus. Email our office at kelly.seipert@usu.edu if you require this option.

Upload Résumé

Applicants are required to submit a professional résumé. The résumé is submitted as a supplemental item to the application.

Additional Guidelines

  • Include employment history and educational accomplishments.
  • Highlight information system and management experience.
  • Meet professional business résumé standards.

Upload a Statement of Purpose

Draft a one-page summary of career goals and objectives. The essay is submitted as a supplemental item to the application. Please address the following in your Statement of Purpose:

  • What career goals do you have that our program will help you to achieve.
  • What experience with information systems or data analytics do you have.
  • What kinds of work experiences do you have, whether they relate to our program goals or not.
  • How did your previous degree prepared you for the program.
  • Why are you interested in our graduate program.
  • If your GPA and/or GRE score is low, why do you think it does not fully represent your skills and preparation for our program.

Obtain English Language Proficiency (International Applicants)

International applicants who have not obtained a university degree in an English‐speaking country are required to take either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), International English Language Test System (IELTS), or the Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic).

  • English Language Scores (only one required)
    • TOEFL: 213 Computer / 79 Internet
    • IELTS: 6.5 (and a minimum score of 5 on each subscale)
    • PTE: Academic score of 53
