Meet the Program Requirements

Students of all majors are encouraged to apply and experience the SEED program. Students must meet the course, communication, and physical requirements described below.

Course Requirements

Students must complete ONE of the following four courses before leaving on the internship. Each of the following four courses are offered in-class, online or via broadcast and can be completed any semester:

  • MSLE 3510 (3): New Venture Creation (typically the route taken by non-business students)
  • MSLE 3530 (3): New Venture Marketing
  • MSLE 3540 (3): New Venture Finance
  • MSLE 3580 (3): New Venture Execution

Communication Requirements

One of the main focuses of the SEED internship is to teach and mentor aspiring entrepreneurs and business owners. This assistance is provided by our interns through one-on-one mentorship as well as through large group classes. It is important that the following communication requirements are met in order to provide these individuals with the needed level of support and attention. If accommodation is needed, contact the USU Disability Resource Center.

  • Students must be able to prepare and deliver 30-60 minute presentations to individuals and to large groups.
  • Students interested in applying for the Dominican Republic, Paraguay, Mexico, and Peru, & are expected to be fluent in Spanish*. The Philippines, Ghana, and Cambodia are English speaking locations.

*Depending on the semester, there may be an opportunity for students that are not fluent in Spanish to participate in one of SEED's Spanish speaking locations.

Physical Requirements

During an average workday, SEED interns will meet with different business owners and clients that are assigned to them. These individuals are not always living or working within the same area or neighborhood, requiring students to spend several hours each day walking and traveling on public transportation. Given the physical demands of the internship, it is important that the following physical requirements are met. If accommodation is needed, contact the USU Disability Resource Center.

  • Ability to walk up to 5 miles per day, including on uneven ground, in hot, humid weather.
  • Elevators or escalators may not be available in some buildings, requiring students to climb stairs.
  • Ability to stand for up to an hour.
