Huntsman School Scholarships

Financial Need (FAFSA dependent) Scholarships

Please note that delays at the US Department of Education mean that USU, and indeed all universities across the US, have not received completed FAFSA information from the Department of Education. We are unable to award any scholarships that specify some financial need component as a criteria for selection since FAFSA score is a part of the evaluation of need. This means that we are unable to award more than 50 scholarships in the Huntsman School until we receive this data. We anticipate being able to open applications for these scholarships in May with scholarships funds being awarded in late May. The availability of the needed data is entirely outside of USU control.

We understand this delay is unhelpful, to say the least. We will award all scholarships without a need component on our normal, advertised schedule, which is posted below. We will keep updating you on the timing of the need-based scholarships as we receive information from the Department of Education.

Utah State Today Article: USU Working to Smooth Issues Caused by FAFSA Updates

The Huntsman School offers many scholarships. These scholarships are based on a student’s academic performance (GPA) and/or financial need. The application opens in December of each year, with scholarships being awarded in late Spring. Awarded scholarships are applied to the following academic school year.

Huntsman Scholarship Donors

During academic year 2022-23, the Huntsman School awarded more than $4 Million in scholarships. These funds were donated by alumni and friends of the Huntsman School, with many scholarships carrying specific criteria for awards. The following page lists the criteria for many scholarships that will be awarded this year.

What Happens to Your Application?

Your application is considered for a cash award by the Huntsman School of Business Scholarship Committee.

In order to allocate funds in as objective and equitable method as possible, the Huntsman School uses an index score based on several factors related to academic success and financial need.

For academic success, we calculate an index formula that awards a score with weighted components based upon:

  • Overall GPA and credit hours
  • Huntsman GPA and credit hours (this makes up approximately 2/3 of the weighting).

Needs-based awards also take the FAFSA score into account. For scholarships with specific donor criteria, potential recipients are qualified based on responses to questions in the application. See Huntsman Scholarships Criteria.

After the awarding has been completed, award and denied letters will be emailed to you.

We wish you the best of luck in your scholarship quest. If you have any questions not answered above, please send an email to huntsmanscholarships@usu.edu.
