Academic Advisors

Through one-on-one, personalized visits, advisors can provide valuable and timely information to students. Advisors help students discover opportunities that will provide them invaluable out of the classroom experiences that will help set them apart from other candidates in their field.

Accounting

Learn how skilled accounting graduates are in high demand as they play the vital role of communicating financial information about a business to shareholders, managers, and other decision-makers.

Business Acumen

The business acumen provides the platform upon which students can develop specific skills and competencies offered by the School's majors and minors. Students are required to earn a “C” or better in all acumen courses. Please see this article for further instructions on Major specific minimum grade requirements.

Business Administration (Teach Out)

The Huntsman School is no longer admitting new students to the Business Administration Major but are admitting students to the Management major. Students who are already declared Business Administration Majors will be able to complete their degree program.

Clubs and Organizations

The Huntsman Difference is the exceptional experiences inside the classroom combined with the valuable opportunities outside the classroom. Students are encouraged to own their education with the numerous resources available throughout the school, including 23 amazing clubs and organizations.

Course Descriptions

A course description is a brief summary of the significant learning experiences for a course. Course descriptions appear in individual course outlines and in the Program of Studies (POSs) for individual programs.

Course Repeats

Students may repeat up to ten courses in their academic career if needed however, there is a difference between the USU repeat policy and the Huntsman School of Business repeat policy.

Degree Works

Degree Works is USU’s degree-audit tool. A degree audit worksheet is a review of past and current coursework organized into completed and incomplete requirements.

Differential Tuition

Differential tuition is additional tuition above the tuition charged by the university. Currently, six of the seven colleges at Utah State University charge differential tuition.

Economics

Economics is the social science that analyzes the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services in order to explain how economies work. Students in the economics major learn how to think critically, solve problems, work with numbers, in addition to a variety of other skills.

Finance

Finance students learn to manage the monetary resources of organizations, countries, and individuals. They also gain the knowledge and preparation necessary to pursue the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) exam after they graduate.

How do I Change My Major?

When a change of matriculation is desired, a student must go to the department office in which he/she is presently enrolled to initiate the proper paperwork. For a change of major, signatures of representatives from both departments are required on the form before it is sent to the Registrar's Office.

Huntsman Scholar Program

The Huntsman Scholar Program is a highly selective undergraduate business and economics program offered to a select group of Direct Admit students into the Huntsman School on the Logan campus. We are looking for, in Jon Huntsman’s words, “the individual sense of purpose and integrity,” in addition to academic excellence.

Huntsman School Acronyms

Acronyms are an abbreviation formed from the initial letters of other words and pronounced as a word itself, such as, NASA or USU. Here you will find a list of commonly used acronyms in the Huntsman School of Business.

International Business

The International Business Major helps students develop the skills and knowledge needed to provide leadership in the global marketplace. This requires not only being able to manage customers, products, and processes in global supply chains, but also understanding the social, political, and cultural dimensions of business in an international environment.

Internship Credit

Internships are a critical step in discovering your career passion and landing meaningful career opportunities. They give you a competitive edge, help you to obtain real-world skillsets and add a layer of richness to your academic experience.

Language Credits

Do you speak a second language? Would you like to earn credit for a second language? Language testing is offered for USU students in the Languages, Philosophy and Communication Studies Department.

Late Add

After the waitlist is removed, students that want to add a class that is full can now complete the “Registration Options form.” This shows the add/drop courses. They must receive the instructor’s signature then bring the form to the advisor for authorization. This does not guarantee them a spot in the class, but the advisor will give them the authorization to register if a spot opens.

Leave of Absence

Undergraduate students who wish to take a break from their studies for one or more semesters (other than summer semester), for a variety of reasons, must file a Leave of Absence or Deferral form online.

Management

The Management major enables students to acquire a foundation of key concepts and skills that are applicable to organizations in both the private and public sectors, coupled with the technical skills needed to support career paths.

Management Information Systems

Learn more about how Management Information Systems students enjoy the highest placement rates and starting salaries of any business major because of the unique focus on data analytics and cutting-edge information systems technologies.

Marketing

Marketing is an extremely valuable interdisciplinary career path that contains some of the most sought-after skills and positions in the world of business. A marketing degree can open many doors in a wide range of industries including advertising, media, and sales activities. Typically, marketing positions are highly sought after by individuals who consider themselves creative and/or analytical.

Master of Accounting (MAcc) Program

The Master of Accounting (MAcc) program at Utah State University provides students with the opportunity to prepare themselves to be successful in the various career paths available in the accounting profession. With a nationally-ranked pass rate on the CPA exam, the program also helps interested students to successfully prepare for this professional certification exam

Math Requirements

Students in the Huntsman School of Business are required to complete STAT 2300 or STAT 2000 as part of their program requirements. In addition, Economics students must also complete MATH 1100 or MATH 1210. You may need to complete a Math placement exam prior to registering for your Math course.

Minors

Adding a minor to your program of study is an excellent way to position yourself for career success. With 16 minors to choose from, you can customize your Huntsman experience. Is a business major currently not part of your plan? The business minor is designed to give you the essential business knowledge and skills to complement any major outside the Huntsman School.

Online Business Courses

All business acumen courses are offered online. The business acumen, also referred to as the core classes, are the classes that all business students must take, regardless of their specific focus of study.

Online Business Degrees

Business Administration (TEACH OUT) and Economics are the only business degrees offered completely online at this time. However, several degrees are offered through a combination of online classes and at our Statewide Campus locations.

Pre-Business

The Pre-Business major is available for students preparing to apply for admission into the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business. Pre-Business students are not advised by the Huntsman School of Business and will need to work with the Exploratory Advising office in TSC 304.

Scholarships

The Huntsman School offers several scholarships that are based on a student’s academic performance (GPA) and financial need. Learn more about scholarship opportunities available through the Huntsman School and USU.

Statewide Campuses

Utah State's classrooms extend far beyond the borders of its residential campus in Logan. There are 33 campuses and centers across the state where you can take classes via interactive video conferencing, face-to-face with local instructors, or online.

Summer Courses

Generally, less upper-division classes are offered during the summer, but most of the business core classes are offered.

At the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business, we provide students a high-quality undergraduate business experience. Along with career-relevant classes and professors who care, students have opportunities to study abroad, participate in internships, and apply classroom business principles in the real world. Prerequisites for upper-division (3000 and above) courses in the Huntsman School of Business.

Waitlists

Students who attempt to register for a class that is full may put themselves on a waiting list on a first-come, first-served basis. When an open seat becomes available, an e-mail will be sent to the “preferred” e-mail address of the student at the top of the waiting list.
