Investment Banking Club places as Utah Venture Capital Case Competition

December 7, 2021

Students from Utah State University’s Jon M. Huntsman School of Business took home first and second place titles in this year’s Utah Venture Capital Case Competition.

The competition saw 33 teams participating from USU, University of Utah, Brigham Young University, Westminster College, and Utah Valley University.

Each team was tasked with selecting and preparing a full pitch deck on a Venture Capital investment in a private company. The deck was to cover company business models, management, industry and growth prospects, financial projections, and risk/mitigants. The top five teams presented to a panel of executives from VC firms here in Utah.

Evan Hawksley from USU captained the first-place team, winning $3,000 in prize money.   The second-place team was an all-USU team comprised of Vanessa Richards, Cameron Cook, and Kaitlyn Radmall, winning $2,000.   This is the first year a USU-represented team has won the competition and the first time an all-USU team has made the final round.

"These students demonstrated a high level of initiative, resourcefulness, and work ethic in this extraordinary achievement.  We are very proud of them,” said Paul Fjeldsted, senior lecturer in the Department of Economics and Finance.
