Alumni Lunch Series: Digital Take-Out with Lindsay Nelson

The CHaSS Alumni Lunch Series has gone online! Join us for Digital Take-Out as we discuss careers with esteemed alumni. Listen in and participate by asking questions during the live event on Zoom. On Thursday, September 10, we'll feature Lindsay Nelson(BS JCOM Public Relations & Corporate Communication) discussing careers in fundraising. Lindsay, a certified fundraising executive, is a director of development at the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah where she manages a major gift portfolio and oversees annual giving and stewardship efforts. She’ll talk about her experience cultivating relationships with donors in the service of helping students go on to successful careers. Come learn more about careers in fundraising and consider the impact of development professionals working in non-profits, academia, healthcare and more! Around the World Wednesdays: Middle East

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHaSS) is teaming up with the Institute of Government and Politics to bring you Around the World Wednesdays – a series of conversations with Utah State University alumni working internationally.

Join us each month as we virtually visit a different region to learn the ins and outs of finding opportunities abroad, navigating a new culture, and exploring professional environments beyond our borders.

On Wednesday, September 16th, our panel will discuss working in the Middle East. Shashank Chauhan (Political Science ‘06), Program Manager for Mercy Hands for Humanitarian Aid, an Iraqi NGO based in Baghdad, and Janet Larsen Roberts (English ’74), English Subject Matter Expert for Knowledge Group, LLC in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates will share their experiences serving communities abroad.

Co-host Dr. Shannon Peterson is also available to share opportunities for current USU students interested in interning abroad.

Alumni Lunch Series Special Presentation: Rev. Dr. Fatimah Salleh

The CHaSS Alumni Lunch Series has gone online! Join us as we discuss careers and current events with esteemed alumni. On Friday, September 18, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences is pleased to welcome Reverend Dr. Fatimah Salleh (BA History) who will share her experiences since leaving CHaSS including pursuing a Masters in Divinity and founding A Certain Work, an organization dedicated to educating on issues of faith, diversity, equity, and inclusion. She is also co-author of The Book of Mormon For the Least of These. Fatimah will talk about how a background in History has served her career path as well as discuss her important work educating fellow clergy about issues of race, gender, and inclusion. Dr. Patrick Mason, Leonard J. Arrington Chair of Mormon History and Culture at Utah State University,will moderate a live Q&A. Join us as we learn about the experiences of our esteemed CHaSS alumni and learn how one alum’s work is making a difference in their industry. CHaSS Outreach Coordinator and Pre-Law Advisor are teaming up to bring you a series of conversations with alumni working in legal careers. Join us each month as we explore various opportunities and aspects of the legal profession. All USU students, faculty, and staff are welcome!

Fall 2020’s series starts on Thursday, September 23. Join us for a conversation on Zoom with Ryan Petersen (Political Science & Economics ’05), the Senior Corporate Counsel and Labor Relations Manager for the Idaho National Laboratory. Ryan is a graduate of Washington and Lee University Law School, where he was a founding editor of the Journal of Energy, Climate, and the Environment. A National Hispanic Merit Scholar,Ryan was named to this year’s Top 100 Under 50 Emerging and Executive Leaders by Diversity MBA Magazine.

On Thursday, September 24, we'll feature Leigh Behunin (BS Speech Communication ‘84) discussing the importance of flexibility. As Executive Director of Broadcast Services for FOX Sports, Leigh has been forced to tackle COVID’s impact on her industry. But flexibility is more than a necessary reflex in a time of crisis; it’s an important skill that employers seek and one that CHaSS majors can master. Hear Leigh discuss how she’s adapted over a long career that includes Emmy awards and project management for the successful transmission of numerous Super Bowls, World Series, and FIFA World Cups. This is one live broadcast you won’t want to miss.
