Dr. Zabriskie earned a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Statistics and a doctorate in Mathematical Sciences (Statistics Specialization) from Utah State University. Prior to joining the Huntsman School in 2023, Dr. Zabriskie served as a faculty member in the Statistics Department at Brigham Young University (BYU).
Dr. Zabriskie’s research focuses on statistical methods for research synthesis, primarily through meta-analysis, with a particular emphasis on combining data from studies with rare events. She enjoys applying these methods to data from the fields of public health and medicine. Involving students in research is important to Dr. Zabriskie, and she has worked with several undergraduate and master’s students on her research publications. Dr. Zabriskie was awarded the Young Scholar Faculty Fellowship in 2022 from BYU’s Statistics Department.
Dr. Zabriskie loves teaching statistics and mentoring students. She has taught introductory math, introductory statistics, business statistics, statistical modeling, and probability & inference courses. Working with students is the highlight of being a faculty member to Dr. Zabriskie. She previously served as the Faculty Advisor for the BYU Statistics Club, a Student Chapter of the American Statistical Association, where she worked closely with students to help foster feelings of unity and belonging within the Statistics Department. Within one year, the club grew to almost 300 student members. The club leadership planned and hosted socials, regular career seminars, and a data competition, and they created a student mentoring program and a volunteer program. Dr. Zabriskie is excited to continuing working with students in the Huntsman School.
Outside of work, Brinley enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, traveling, skiing, and photography. She also loves playing volleyball, walleyball, spikeball, board games, and card games.
