Biography
Ruby's passion lies in being a scholar student affairs practitioner. She is committed to empowering diverse student communities to make informed decisions about their academic journey. Drawing from her lived experiences as an international student, transfer student, and first-generation college student, Ruby brings a unique perspective and a student-centered approach to foster a supportive and inclusive environment for students to thrive.
Ruby holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Education in Student Affairs from UCLA. Her professional journey has taken her through various roles, including International Student Support Program, Transfer Student Center, Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Office, and Recreation. She has also served as a Teaching Assistant for a Culture and Human Development Class and worked closely with English Language Learners as a Student Advisor at a language school. Her expertise encompasses academic advising, student programming, evaluation, and administrative support.
Ruby's advising philosophy is centered on building trust-based relationships with students, addressing their individual needs, and recognizing the importance of their social-emotional well-being. She aims to create a safe space for students to share their challenges, actively listens, and empathizes with their experiences. Her goal is to nurture resilient student leaders who can support others within their community, fostering an inclusive campus climate where every student finds belonging and support. Ruby provides tailored guidance that respects students' unique needs and identities. She hopes to empower students with the navigational, aspirational, and resistant capital necessary to guide their college paths and ensure their persistence in pursuing their degrees.
On a personal note, she loves playing the piano, swimming, and has recently embarked on a journey into Aerial Yoga.
