Biography

Hough has taught for five years at Brigham Young University-Idaho as an adjunct in Organizational Leadership and Advanced Business Applications. He is currently teaching Strategy in the MHRM and MBA programs and Leadership in the MSLE Department.

Hough spent 35+ years as a C-Suite executive and has been an active leader throughout his career in the non-profit, civic, government, political, and academic spheres. In 1993, Hough co-founded Nutraceutical Corporation (NASDAQ: NUTR) and served as its President until the company was sold and taken private in 2017.  During his tenure, the company acquired more than 50 companies and manufactured over 7,500 products across 55 brands, which were sold in 10,000 U.S. health food stores and in more than 80 countries. Previously, he was a partner at Clarté Capital, LLC, a mergers and acquisitions firm.

As founder and president of Bonneville Satellite Corporation and its successor, Keystone Communications, Hough pioneered satellite broadcasting of sports—including the summer and winter Olympic Games—news, and entertainment programming to every major domestic network and to international broadcasters across Asia, Australia, and Europe. He built studio and transmission facilities in New York, Washington, D.C., Hollywood, San Diego, and Salt Lake City. He developed early teleconferencing and distance-learning applications, and built private networks for clients including Apple, Tandy, Hilton Hotels, and the American Red Cross. The Society of Satellite Professionals named him a Pioneer in the Broadcast Satellite Industry. He began his career in broadcasting and advertising and later served as publisher of Utah Business Magazine and Woodland Publishing.

Hough has been active in civic affairs for more than 40 years, serving as Chairman of the Utah Republican Party, National Committeeman to the Republican National Committee, serving on transition committees for three governors, and Chairman of the Utah Marriage Commission. He was President of the largest Boy Scouts of America Council in the U.S. and is an Eagle Scout and Silver Beaver among many other recognitions. He has worked with NGOs that emphasize self-reliance mentoring and entrepreneurship in more than 15 countries. He and his wife, Debra, have 10 children and 24 grandchildren; he speaks Spanish, loves the outdoors, and has completed several Ironman triathlons.
