In today’s increasingly competitive environment—whether for jobs, pay increases, or academic success—certifications offer an advantage. They provide a credible, third-party assessment of your skills and knowledge in a specific area. At the Huntsman School of Business, our goal is to help you be career-ready, and part of that readiness includes mastering essential business tools, such as Excel.

By completing DATA 1100 and earning the Excel Associate Certification, you demonstrate your proficiency in Excel. Please review the Excel Associate Certification Objectives to ensure you are fluent in the skills and concepts listed. These are the objectives that will be tested during the certification exam. Keep in mind that DATA 1100 covers more content than is required for the certification, giving you a broader foundation.

Practice The Exam

We are excited to offer practice tests in preparation for the Excel certification exams. Below are the step-by-step instructions for accessing and starting the practice test. You can complete the practice test from your own computer (Windows only).

Step 1: Check to make sure the device you are using is equipped with Microsoft 365.

  • If you do not have Microsoft Office, go to USU Service Now to download Microsoft Office 365 for students. It is FREE as part of your USU Student status.

Step 2: Create a student account for GMetrix by following the steps below.

  • Go to www.gmetrix.net/Login and create a user account by clicking on "Sign up here!" Note: make sure to put your A-Number as your student number.
  • Once registered, login to www.gmetrix.net/Login
  • Press “Start a New Test”
  • You should be prompted to Redeem an Access Code.

The access code for the Associate Excel certification is:

Step 3: On the homepage, select “Redeem Code” and enter the access code; Scroll down the homepage to find “Microsoft 365 Apps” and select MO-210 Excel.

Step 4: You will have access to the study guide, practice exams, and quizzes

As with all technology projects, this will be difficult to learn and it WILL require some trial and error. Please note, this certification opportunity usually costs $200 per student. However, the Huntsman School of Business sees the benefit of it for each student and has provided this opportunity for you, free of charge. Please work hard and learn as much as you can. This is your education, so own it!

Exclamation Point PLEASE NOTE: Macbooks are not compatible with the practice tests. Please take the practice tests in the Eccles Business Building basement lab #115 on a Windows machine.


After you have scored a 700+ on the practice exams, you are ready to sign up for a certification time. To sign-up for a certification time, navigate to the Student-Sign Up in Sign-up Genius.
