Biography

Dr. Eytan Sheshinski is a recipient of the Jon M. Huntsman Presidential Visiting Professorship at the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business. As a visiting scholar, Professor Sheshinski will join the Economics and Finance Department faculty at Utah State University. Dr. Sheshinski is currently the Sir Isaac Wolfson Professor of Public Finance at Hebrew University and has held faculty positions at Harvard, Stanford, UC Berkeley, MIT, Columbia, and Princeton.

Dr. Sheshinski serves as the director of the workshop on privatization and regulatory reform at the Woodrow Wilson School, Princeton University. He has also served on various boards of directors and as chairman of the Board of Directors for Koor Industries (Israel’s largest industrial conglomerate) 1990-1995. The Koor Industries case has been documented as a Harvard case study.

His recent book, The Economic Theory of Annuities, has earned superb reviews from leaders in the financial economics profession, as well as his other books: Entrepreneurship, Innovation and the Growth Mechanism of Free Market Economics (2006) and Optimum Pricing, Inflation, and the Cost of Price Adjustment (1993).

Professor Sheshinski has a long and consistent track record of publishing world-recognized scholarly research in leading economics journals such as Quarterly Journal of Economics, Review of Economic Studies, Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Political Economy, Econometrica, American Economic Review, Journal of Economic Theory and holds an editorial position at Econometrica and the Journal of Public Economics. Dr. Sheshinski is also a fellow of the Econometric Society and has served as director of the Harvard Institute of International Development/International Program on Privatization and Regulatory Reform from 1996-1999.

Professor Sheshinski will teach a special course on the topic of annuity theory and annuity markets that will involve faculty and high-ability undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of Economics and Finance, as well as business leaders, professors, and university administrators.

During his 2011 visit, Dr. Sheshinski will also deliver a series of public lectures on Social Security reforms and lessons from the privatization of state-owned enterprises.

He also has a strong global perspective having consulted with organizations in Malaysia, Bolivia, and Romania concerning privatization of industry and Social Security systems.
