Biography

Sharlene Wells Hawkes was born in Paraguay and is the only foreign-born, bilingual Miss America (1985). She is an accomplished musician and published author. Hawkes holds a bachelor’s degree in Communications from Brigham Young University and a master’s degree in Integrated Marketing Communication from the University of Utah.

After college, she signed with ESPN and spent 16 years as an award-winning sportscaster, covering world-class events such as World Cup Soccer, World Cup Skiing, and the Kentucky Derby. Since 2005, Sharlene Hawkes has been Chief Marketing Officer for StoryRock. She also founded Remember My Service, a digital and printed scrapbook for military service members and their families.

Hawkes and her husband Bob, have four children and live in Centerville, Utah, where they enjoy skiing, biking, and camping.
