Mission and History

Mission

The Shingo Student Center seeks to cultivate a comprehensive understanding of organizational and operational excellence principles that transcend industries and disciplines. By equipping students with the tools, principles, and frameworks to apply these concepts, the Center fosters ethical leadership, innovation, continuous improvement, and a commitment to creating value in their careers and communities.

The Center will serve as a hub for interdisciplinary collaboration, engaging students from across Utah State University and beyond. Rooted in the guiding principles of the Shingo Model— Enterprise Alignment, Continuous Improvement, and Cultural Enablers—the Center emphasizes analytical rigor, critical thinking, systems-based problem-solving, and experiential learning. By integrating these principles into academic studies, co-curricular activities, and hands-on applications, the Center prepares students to thrive in a dynamic, interconnected, and global marketplace.

Vision

To establish the Shingo Student Center as a national leader in operational excellence education, recognized for its interdisciplinary reach, innovative pedagogy, and its ability to prepare students across all fields to align organizational goals and strategies, foster a culture that empowers individuals and teams, and drives sustainable continuous improvement.

The Center Will Equip Students To:

  • Align organizational goals and strategies to ensure enterprise-wide success.
  • Foster a culture of empowerment, collaboration, and respect within teams and organizations.
  • Drive sustainable continuous improvement to create lasting value and impact.
