Huntsman Post - November 2015

Cache Valley received its first snow of the season this week, and I know the skiers among us are excited for a new season of powder.

This month, we are excited to announce a new professorship in accounting, thanks to our friends Jim and Bonnie Quigley, and the Deloitte Foundation. Their support will enable us to go and find a top-notch accounting professor. It is also yet another signal that our accounting program, ranked 34th in the nation out of more than 600 college accounting programs, is on an amazing upward trajectory.

Speaking of amazing faculty, Dr. Devon Gorry, an assistant professor in our Economics & Finance Department, just received a prestigious grant from the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Gorry, along with two other colleagues, will conduct research to determine the efficacy of flu vaccinations on serious health challenges. The NIH only approves about 15 % of the reviewed proposals.

Finally, one of our outstanding Huntsman students, Madelyn Fife, shares her experience traveling with her fellow Huntsman Scholars across Europe. The Scholar Semester is perhaps the signature experience for the Huntsman Scholar Program, and includes a true co-hort experience for the 25 students who take 6 courses together through the semester, and travel to Europe for four weeks right in the middle of the semester, to gain insights into the realities of the global economy. I only wish I could have had such an opportunity when I was an undergraduate student at Utah State!

Best,

Douglas D. Anderson Dean & Professor
