Kem Gardner Honored as a “Giant in Our City” by Salt Lake Chamber

The Salt Lake City Chamber recognized a long-time supporter of the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business for his many contributions and leadership with its “Giant in Our City” award.

Kem Gardner, chairman of The Gardner Company and co-founder and former president of The Boyer Company, is a member of the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business Dean’s Circle. The chamber, Utah’s largest and oldest statewide business association, presented the honor to Mr. Gardner Feb. 29 at the Grand America Hotel. He was the 32nd recipient in the 42-year history of what the chamber refers to as “the most prestigious business award given in Utah.”

More than a thousand people attended the event which featured a number of speakers including Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

“It is quite humbling to join such an esteemed group of men and women who have received this award,” Mr. Gardner said in a statement released by the chamber.

Mr. Gardner has developed more than 23 million square feet of corporate offices throughout his 38-year career, including shopping centers, medical buildings, hotels, industrial and manufacturing facilities, as well as other commercial real estate. He also has developed more than 2,500 residential building lots.

“Gardner has donated significant time and financial resources to strengthen our community,” the chamber’s website reads. “He has been a Trustee of Intermountain Healthcare since 1982 and currently chairs the board. He chaired the successful fundraising campaign for the new Intermountain Medical Center. Gardner has chaired the United Way of Salt Lake and serves on its board as well as the board of the Utah Symphony.”

Mr. Gardner also was a Dean’s Convocation speaker in 2006.
