What to Expect Once Your Application is Complete
Once an application is complete, an admissions committee comprised of MHR faculty and staff will review each application and assesses the applicants’ qualifications for the program. Qualified candidates will be invited to participate in one of the Interview Days events, after which final admissions decisions will be made.
Interview Days
In order to get to know and evaluate the candidates outside of their application, the program hosts several Interview Day events on-campus during the application season (typically on Fridays). These events also prepare applicants for what they might experience as a student during corporate flyouts, when being recruited for internship or full-time job placement. The Interview Day includes:
- Two formal interviews
- A social hour with mocktails and sodas
- Individual Assessment
- A group-based activity
- A group meal
All components are attended by MHR applicants, current MHR students, alumni, faculty and staff. The admissions committee meets the week after the Interview Days to make a final admission decision. The program reaches out to applicants once a final decision is made.
What to Expect if You are Admitted to the MHR Program
For applicants that are admitted into the program, there are a few important opportunities you will want to be aware of.
Summer Kickoff: 3-4 Days in Early May
Summer kickoff is a retreat held at Bear Lake and the USU campus that includes career development activities, bonding with your fellow cohort members, intro to USU campus, and networking with some of the top companies that will come to campus in the fall to recruit for internships.
Professional Development Assignments: Throughout the Summer
Our professional development course includes assignments like mock interviews, resumes reviews, information interviews and several more. The various assignments and modules in this course will help define your individual strengths, get acquainted with the roles of an HR professional, polish your resume and sharpen your interview skills to help prepare for the fall internship interview season with the companies that come to campus seeking candidates for summer internships. The course also provides resources specifically for MHR students.
MHR Orientation: 3 Days in August (the week before school begins)
Orientation is a time to mingle with your cohort and faculty, learn about the 2nd year MHR students summer internships, participate in team building activities and participate in hands on learning activities like case studies
