7 Habits Journey
“If I really want to improve my situation, I can work on the one
thing over which I have control—myself.”
DR. STEPHEN R. COVEY
Whether you are a freshman, senior, working professional, or elementary school student we all experience challenges. We also each have unique desires for who we want to become. Timeless principles are the cure-all and the compass.
The 7 Habits Journey is a 9-week principle-centered leadership development course. Participants will study and reflect individually and in groups on leadership principles from Stephen R. Covey’s Greatest work, “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.” Through the 7 Habits Journey, students will experience greater productivity, improved communications, strengthened relationships, increased influence, and gain more clarity concerning their life’s purpose.
The learning process consists of three parts: personal reflection, group discussion, and creating personal implementation plans.
There are no assignments or quizzes in The 7 Habits Journey. The most important parts of the experience are personal and group reflection. At the personal level you will work through reflection activities contained in canvas modules. These reflection activities will challenge you to define who you are, what you value most in life, and who you want to become. Use these reflection activities as an opportunity to learn about yourself.
At the interpersonal level you will reflect with 5-8 peers during weekly one-hour reflection sessions. The small size of the groups allows for a safe place where intimacy and trust can build among the members. These groups will be led by a skilled facilitator, and will be extremely useful to help you identify blindspots in your character and to help you develop a personal implementation plan.
Personal Implementation Plan
Without some sort of an implementation plan it may be challenging to consistently apply the principles you learn through the journey. Creating personal implementation plans will help you to think about your own situation and design an individualized path moving forward. You will create your personal implementation plan at the end of each group discussion.
Masters and Undergraduate students can apply to be a part of the 7 Habits Journey for the 2020 spring semester. If you are selected to participate, your group facilitator will contact you to determine when your reflection group will meet.
Approximately 1 hour per week of personal reflection, and then
