Hansen Differential Tuition Scholarship Application Deadline

The Hansen Charitable Trust has established a scholarship to assist undergraduate Huntsman School of Business students with differential tuition. Awards are offered each semester, based on need, to students who are not already covered by full-tuition scholarships. The application deadline is Friday, September 10, 2021, at 5:00 pm.

Leadership Forum: David Jenkins

David Jenkins, founder and chairman of Conservice, will receive the Huntsman Distinguished Executive Alumnus award. Jenkins retired as President and CEO of Conservice in August 2020, 20 years after starting the business. During his time at the helm, Conservice grew to a multi-billion dollar company with over 2,000 employees and was named by Inc. Magazine as one of the fastest-growing companies 13 times. Jenkins was named Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for the Utah Region in 2011 and currently serves as a member of the Huntsman School National Advisory Board.

Entrepreneur Leadership Series: Ashley Smith

This week’s speaker is Ashley Smith, who is the founder of Smash Dance Academy and co-owner of the Utah Jazz. Ashley began dancing at the age of 7 and her passion for dance over the years led her to earn many different teaching credentials. In 2007, she opened a dance studio in her basement and in 2011 she moved to a bigger location allowing her team to teach multiple dance genres to over 600 students.
In October 2020 Ashley and her husband Ryan, who is the co-founder and CEO of Qualtrics, became owners of the Utah Jazz. Together they enjoy working on their businesses and raising their family.

During the summit, you’ll hear from our powerful keynote speaker Lyndsy Blonquist, Assistant VP at Intermountain Healthcare. She will share her inspiring story about finding her true north and how that journey changes as we grow. Join Lyndsy in an engaging conversation with panelists, Holly Robb Galbraith – Director, Government Relations & Licensing at Maverik, Inc., and Paul Fjeldsted, Sr. Lecturer Economics and Finance Huntsman School of Business. Moderated by Lianne Wappett, Lecturer Data Analytics and Information Systems, Huntsman Scholar Program Academic Director at the Huntsman School of Business. Participants will engage in small group discussions, network with fellow students, and meet faculty mentors. The summit will leave you feeling energized to find your true north and empowered to dare mighty things!

2021 Utah Women's Organizations Network (UWON) Gathering (invitation only)

This event is by invitation only for leaders of a women’s network, group, or organization in Utah and is co-hosted by the Utah Women & Leadership Project and One Utah Roadmap (Utah Governor’s Office).
The Younique Foundation will be sponsoring the 2021 UWON gathering (5th year), and it will be held on Friday, September 17, 2021 (11:30am-2:00pm) at their location near Thanksgiving Point in Lehi. We welcome one representative from each group to attend.
We will begin by serving lunch and then will do welcomes, introductions, and quick updates of new resources available for your groups. We’ll then share information slides about each of the groups in attendance, while introducing the representatives from each group, so we can recognize each other. We’ll then split up into 7-9 groups to wrestle through some critical questions that will help both your networks, the UWLP, and the state of Utah in efforts moving forward. Finally, we’ll meet back together to debrief the smaller discussion sessions and discuss next steps.

Entrepreneur Leadership Series: Russell Davies
Panel Discussion/Presentation
This week’s speaker is Russell Davies who is the founder of the non-profit P.T.S.D. (Professional Transformation Sports Development). Russell served 5 years in the military and was deployed overseas to Iraq and Afghanistan. When he returned home, he realized that kayaking and adventure sports were a source of relief and rehabilitation in coping with post military life.
That realization propelled him to share his love of adventure sports with other veterans of the U.S. military inflicted with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. As the founder of P.T.S.D. Russell focuses on educating veterans on how to overcome P.T.S.D. and/or depression through engagement in outdoor sports such as kayaking, mountain biking, rock climbing, skiing and snowboarding alongside other veterans who share a similar passion.

This session is the in-person session and will be held in Huntsman Hall on Sept. 24th. While registration is not required for the in-person session, we recommended registering on Handshake to see attending employers prior to the event.

Entrepreneur Leadership Series: Arshay Cooper
Panel Discussion/Presentation
This week’s speaker is Arshay Cooper, who grew up on the West Side of Chicago, raised by a single mom in a neighborhood surrounded by gangs and drugs. In 1997, he joined (and later became captain of) the first All- Black high school rowing team at Manley High School, an experience that changed Arshay’s life.
Over the years, Arshay has coached and helped start several rowing programs for low-income youth across the country, and anywhere a puddle of water exists, so that other young people can experience the profound change that can happen on the water.
Arshay is mostly known for diversifying the sport of rowing and his activism work in Chicago. He is the author of his memoir, “A Most Beautiful Thing”, which has also been made into a major motion picture.
