Assessment

Our mission is to develop leaders of distinction in commerce and public affairs and is built on the strategic pillars of Analytical Rigor, Entrepreneurial Spirit, Ethical Leadership, and Global Vision. Our Assurance of Learning (AoL) process uses these strategic pillars as the basis for our undergraduate competency goals and the associated competency objectives flow from these strategic goals. As a result, the AoL process is one way we can track progress towards achieving our strategic objective to become the premier undergraduate business and economics program in the Intermountain West and, ultimately, fulfill our mission. Graduate programs conduct their own AoL processes that aim to ensure relevant progress.

Once competency goals and objectives are set, we gather measures, both direct and indirect, to track our progress on objectives. When we fall short of meeting a particular objective or otherwise note the need to improve our processes, changes can be made to help ensure progress occurs. This helps us “close the loop” through reflection on what we learn during the process. Finally, once a particular competency objective is accomplished, we can seek to identify new, additional objectives to pursue.
