Biography

Val Potter graduated with a business degree from USU in 1982. While at USU he was a student body officer (VP of Athletics) and a member of the track team. One of his memories of USU; his job as a senior was as the first auditor of the newly opened University Inn. This he did from the hours of 10 pm. to 2 am. most nights while supporting a wife and young son. This gave him an opportunity to practice the business principles he studied during the day in school while learning the importance of doing a good job in a tough situation.

During his business career, he has started three businesses and spent 23 years in international business. He has worked as a corporate director of sales and marketing in several industries, has created successful marketing and sales plans for new products worldwide and has traveled to over 50 countries during his career.

He has been the Executive Director of Development for the College of Engineering at USU since 2005. His business background has been essential in helping to establish partnerships and build relationships between USU and the corporations and alumni he works with.

At USU he has served as President of the Young Alumni Council, Alumni Council, Big Blue Club Board and still officiates at USU Track home meets. He has been active in the community and in politics where he is a member of the Cache County Council and is a former North Logan City Mayor and North Logan City Councilmember.

Val and his wife Nancy live in North Logan and they have three grown children, all USU graduates.
