Biography

Benjamin Leatham grew up in Carson City, NV and gained his first experience in Human Resources working or a local credit union as an HR Assistant. After graduating high school, he attended a year of school at Brigham Young University. He then served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he was assigned to speak Spanish. Upon completion of his mission, he returned to Brigham Young University, where he met his wife Camille and pursued his interest in Spanish, graduating with a degree in Spanish Translation and a minor in Communications. After his graduation, he began his dual master’s degrees in Human Resources and Business Administration at Utah State University. He gained some additional experience as an HR Intern at 3rd Gen Machine in Logan, UT during his first year of his master’s degrees before moving to Bloomington, IL for a summer internship with State Farm. After his internship and completing his two master’s degrees, Benjamin started full-time in the HR Development Program with Chevron, where he completed four six-month rotations, in locations of Northern California, Central California and Venezuela. Benjamin has also filled roles in Chevron as an HR Business Partner, an HR Projects and Planning Analyst and is currently working as a Compensation Analyst.

Q. Why did you choose the Huntsman School Master of Human Resources Program?
A. I was interested in the dual MHR and MBA. Specifically I liked that it provided the opportunity to get the depth in Human Resources while also complementing that with the breadth of a business degree.

Q. What was your favorite part of the Huntsman School MHR Program?
A. The professors at the Hunstman School MHR are completely invested in the success of their students. They care personally about the experiences the students have while on the program as well as the job opportunities that come their way. They aren't just professors. They are true mentors and friends

Q. What advice would you give current MHR students or recent graduates interested in pursuing a career in HR?
A. I would recommend that the seek out as much experience as they can in Human Resources prior to looking for their summer internship or full-time jobs. Even an unpaid internship or volunteering can improve your resume and provide experience in a way that can open up much better opportunities down the road than may be available without the experience.

Q. What are your 2-3 main job duties?
A. Complete analysis of competitive position and develop salary structure for US payroll and provide tools and coaching to non-US countries to develop their own structures. Develop enterprise-wide process for determining annual merit increases and bonus payouts.
