Biography

M. Kay Jeppesen is vice president for information technology and chief information officer for Utah State University. He is also an adjunct professor in the School of Accountancy at USU.

He has extensive experience in systems design, research and development administration including public accounting and management consulting experience with a national accounting firm. In addition, he has served as an auditor and general tax assistant for a national public accounting firm, KPMG.

Mr. Jeppesen is responsible for the implementation of "Banner," a USU administrative services system. He coordinated this effort with project teams and consultants to ensure that this major change in software and practices was implemented on time and within the budget. In his current assignment he is responsible for helping to develop a responsive and capable information technology system at USU.

He has also served as associate vice president for research, acting director of the USU Innovation Campus, director of contracts and grants and acting director of Technology Commercialization for USU. He is a member of the USU Research Foundation (USURF) Board of Trustees and vice president for finance and administrative affairs for USURF. Mr. Jeppesen is also security officer and director of the Research Support Services office for the Space Dynamics Laboratory.

He has supervised the development of the financial accounting system at USURF and has provided leadership in the creation of an electronic office system for USU and USURF. He has been instrumental in developing corporate policy for USURF. The nature of his work has led him to various parts of the country and world, where he has developed many valued professional friendships.

Mr. Jeppesen received his BS degree in business administration with a minor in economics in 1957 and later finished his MBA in 1971 from Utah State University.

Mr. Jeppesen now serves on the Utah Education Network Steering Committee and the Universities Space Research Association Board of Directors and Executive Committee. He has participated with and held office in many regional and national professional organizations such as the Association of University Research Parks, Association for Communications Technology for Professionals in Higher Education, National Council of University Research Administrators, Society of Research Administrators, and the National Contract Management Association. The National Management Contract Association honored him by making him a fellow member, "an honor bestowed on those few who have made significant and outstanding contributions to the field of contract management."

He is also a certified professional contract manager within the National Contract Management Association and recognized as a certified research administrator within the Society of Research Administrators. He has been listed in the Marquis Who’s Who in the West and Who’s Who in Finance and Industry.

Mr. Jeppesen is married to Ellen Rae, who is also a USU alum and past professor in the former College of Family Life. The Jeppesens enjoy spending time with their family and watching their grandchildren participate in sporting events. They have 8 children, 25 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Jeppesen have created an endowed scholarship in the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business . They are Old Main Society members and long-time supporters of Utah State University.
