The biggest hurdle to jump when selecting a school is making sure that your choice is geared in the direction of where you want to go in your life. If you want to be a doctor, you’re going to be more likely to look to the University of Utah, whose medical program is among the best in the country. If you want to be an attorney, you probably want to go Ivy League so that you have a higher chance of being taken by a top firm like Skadden or Wachtel. But when you have an area of study that is as fungible as the realm of business, the choices become increasingly more difficult. This is due mainly to the fact that the different facets of business are so vast. Do you like numbers? You’ll probably want to steer yourself towards Accounting or Finance. People? Management or Marketing is for you. Graphs and analytics? Economics is your game. You may be thinking to yourself that an MBA is where you want to be in a few years. You may just want a job. All of these factors are key in determining the best school for you. The purpose of the University series is to assist you in making those decisions by providing real world answers from real people at different schools so that you can look beyond the crap that recruiters feed you in an attempt to get your money and recognize what and where the real value of a school is.

It is entirely possible, given the state of public education in this country, that many of you will not know which of those big, chunky, Western States is Utah. It is therefore unlikely that you will know where Salt Lake City is, let alone any other city in the state. However, sequestered in the Northern Utah Mountains, very close to the border of Idaho, is a town called Logan, which houses one of the largest universities in Utah, also known as Utah State University. Home of the Aggies, Utah state offers programs ranging from physical sciences, to social sciences, to humanities, and business related studies. Recently obtaining sponsorship by the prolific Huntsman Family, Utah State University’s business school has come into its own, turning it from a State University in a sleepy mountain town that people passed through on their way to Bear Lake, into a University with clout both on a local and international scale.
