Get LinkedIn Week to Open New Opportunities for Students
By Klydi Heywood
Students often ask how to connect to potential employers.
This month the Huntsman School of Business will give them a simple answer; get LinkedIn.
The school will be hosting its first annual “Get LinkedIn Week” Oct. 29 - Nov. 2. This week will focus on raising awareness of LInkeIn and how it can help students with their careers. The week will include a number of events where students will learn how to build a portfolio, create a resume, write a cover letter, and succeed in a professional interview. Working with Career Management on Monday night, students will have the opportunity to “date their career.” Students will engage in activities where they will be given interview tips and taught business etiquette.
Throughout the week students will also have the opportunity to have a business profile picture taken by a professional photographer and to learn how to complete an engaging LinkedIn profile.
“LinkedIn has become an important business tool for networking, but more importantly, for job hunting,” said Eric Schulz, co-director of strategic marketing and brand management. “Virtually every corporate and executive recruiter now uses LinkedIn as their primary tool for locating and contacting prospective employees. Our students need to be building their LinkedIn profiles now, because they never know what doors it might open."
