The former CFO of Healthsouth, Weston Smith, who blew the whistle on a multi-year, $3 billion fraud, will be a keynote speaker at a Partners In Business conference at Utah State University on Oct. 25.
Weston Smith will explain how to
detect and prevent fraud.
Mr. Smith, who is now a business ethics consultant, will be a speaker at the 36th Annual Accounting Conference, sponsored by the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business, that is to be held at the Eccles Conference Center on the USU campus. He is just one of several speakers slated to speak at the one-day event.
Jamie Andrus, the assistant director of Partners In Business, said the annual event draws leaders and professionals from around the region.
“It provides a rare opportunity to gain fresh insight into how to best deal with many of the challenges faced in the industry today,” Jamie said. “People learn not just from the presenters but from each other because our conference attracts the kind of professionals and students who are always learning.”
Another keynote speaker will be Denny Beran, chairman of the Institute of Internal Auditors and senior vice president of JCPenney Corporation. He plans to talk about the importance of being a risk and control expert, and the benefits of being mindful of potential fraud and ethical issues within an organization.
