Traders, portfolio managers, bankers and students at the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business now have one more thing in common.

Thanks to a recent investment by the Huntsman School of Business, the Bloomberg Professional service is now available for student use. It is a massive data stream through which users can watch and analyze financial market data in real-time. Many of the world’s largest financial service companies use Bloomberg Professional to gain a competitive advantage.

Bloomberg Professional “provides access to all the news, analytics, communications, charts, liquidity, functionalities and execution services that you need to put knowledge into action,” according to

Bloomberg Professional is intended to be used by financial service companies, so students who familiarize themselves with it will be even more prepared to enter the workforce, according to Paul Fjeldsted, senior lecturer in the Huntsman School of Business.

“This is the same service that many of our students’ potential employers use,” Mr. Fjeldsted said. “Bloomberg training and certification is another way Huntsman School students can differentiate themselves in the marketplace.”

David Dymock, a senior majoring in finance, said that becoming certified with the service is a valuable asset to any student.

“More than 350,000 finance professionals use Bloomberg Professional, and many of them require their employees to be certified,” Mr. Dymock said. “Getting certified while still in school is a great way to stay current and ahead of the curve.”

Any student in the Huntsman School can take advantage of this valuable resource and all are invited to do so, Mr. Fjeldsted said. It is available on certain computers in the computer labs in the basement of the George S. Eccles Business Building. There is a tutorial that helps users learn the program and take tests to get certified.
