MHR 6500 Managing Individuals and Groups
Question:
Please describe the single most important learning you took from each class you've had so far:
- How to better work within a group, recognize dysfunctional behavior and be a better listener
- I learned what my leadership style - (preferred) is and how to develop it
- Group dynamics - groupthink was the learning that most stuck with me. Watching individuals in each group. It is very interesting to see the roles come out and how the group functions
- Creativity in problem solving.
Thinking outside the box
- Individual personalities, group dynamics, managing them, better ways of communication, HR principles
- This class was long ago.
What I remember most is the writing.
The writing helped me improve these particular skills
- How different individuals are motivated, different personality groups need different motivation and support
- Diversity and cross cultural relationships are a specific weakness of mine
- People, people, people . . . every companies greatest asset that needs to be managed just as effectively as other tangible assets
- Re-affirmation of the importance of trust as a foundation of effective management
- The importance of the soft skills - managing and influencing people is the hardest yet most important job aspect
- In most cases, the success of how well an organization manages and treats their people is directly connected to the success of the organization as a whole
- Employees are more motivated by intrinsic value and not money
- How men and women are different in the workplace.
My personality type vs. others
- How to communicate more effectively by writing papers
- Different personality traits: chameleon, etc . . .
- Use tools and techniques of business . . . learned how to listen to people, managers and coworkers. Manage and lead and change expectations
- Various methods to lead and stimulate individuals by in/extrinsic rewards
- Learned about motivation, problem resolution
