The Management Department involves a variety of different professional partners. The student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) interacts closely with the Bridgerland and Salt Lake SHRM chapters. Thus, through the student SHRM chapter, our human resource management students network with human resource professionals, many of whom are alumni, from throughout the Intermountain West. Each year in conjunction with the Human Resources Seminar, conducted by Partners in Business, the student SHRM chapter hosts a dinner for alumni and professionals, providing many networking opportunities. Because of the long-running success of our HR programs, our alumni are well-placed in most of the mid-size to larger companies throughout the state.
Each spring, as part of our entrepreneurship program, our students are involved in the executive lecture series. Each week during spring semester we invite a different entrepreneur or executive to speak to students. Most are alumni. The formal part of the series goes for about one hour, followed by an informal reception. Thus, students have the opportunity to interact with executives from a wide variety of industries in both a group and one-on-one setting. List of last years speaker series speakers.
We sponsor an annual Entrepreneur Day. Last year’s keynote speaker was Robert Harris (ChemDry). The annual event is sponsored by Gary Anderson (former CEO of Stephen’s Gourmet Cocoa) and David Anderson of Spring Capital.
Our students frequently work with real companies and prospective companies doing feasibility studies, business plans, and other small business consulting projects. Specifically, we coordinate with Henry Nowak, who works for the university in the Technology Transfer Office, but also retains a position as executive-in-residence in the Management Department. Some companies, such as Juniper Systems, which is lead by CEO Ron Campbell,, have been involved with numerous projects and have provided multiple internships for students.
