The charts below show the number of students completing out-of-state and international internships. Four factors account for the drop. First, the BIS (now MIS) major has experienced dramatic declines in enrollment, and this degree required its students to complete an internship. Second, in 2004 the college stopped allowing door-to-door sales positions to qualify for internships. Third, the economy in Utah has been strong the last few years reducing the need to go out-of-state if an internship were desired. Fourth, the college implemented an enrollment management plan and the legislature changed the requirements for receiving in-state student status. This resulted in a drop in overall students and a drop in students from out-of-state who often returned home to complete internships. Though the numbers are lower, the overall quality of these internships has increased.
