Biography

Steve Eaton is the director of communications at Utah State University's Jon M. Huntsman School of Business.

He has been at the Huntsman School of Business since 2006 and, at one point, worked his way up to the seventh floor where he was able to look out his window and wave at the tiny people below. He now works in the basement in an office that some say was once a bomb shelter – he’s that important.

He writes press releases, contributes to publications for the Huntsman School of Business, makes up speeches for other people to give, takes pictures of important people and answers thousands of e-mails every hour. Once the school sent him to South America but he eventually made his way back.

In a previous life, he was a reporter at the Salt Lake Tribune and the Ogden Standard-Examiner in Utah, and the Central Maine Morning Sentinel. He was also once the director of public affairs at Husson University in Bangor, Maine. (This was really a public relations job and had nothing to do with helping people have affairs. It was just an unfortunate title.)

He also was a PR guy for the ever-popular Regence BlueShield where he worked in a tall building in downtown Seattle where many grownups also worked. While there, for a brief time, his voice was featured in radio commercials and he toured grade schools with “Fitness Annie,” convincingly playing the role of “Junk Food Bob.”

He is still a pretend journalist who writes a humor column for the Deseret News. He used to have a humor column in the News Tribune in Tacoma, Washington, and the Herald Journal, in Logan. He contributed to each paper for several years until they figured out that nothing he wrote made any sense. He is featured on Utah Public Radio every Tuesday at about 9:30 a.m., where he sounds out of place, even though they play music before and after his commentary.
