Biography

Mr. Rice serves as Of Counsel at Workman Nydegger in Salt Lake City. Mr. Rice was in-house counsel at DuPont for nearly 40 years where he practiced patent, licensing, commercial, environmental, and corporate law. He has broad experience in industrial chemistry, polymer chemistry, and biochemistry technologies.

Mr. Rice retired from a career as an in-house attorney at DuPont and joined Workman Nydegger in Salt Lake City in 2004. He currently teaches courses at Brigham Young University Law School and represents the firm in many community activities and entrepreneurial and innovation programs.

At DuPont, his responsibilities included overseeing the patent practice of a major DuPont polymer chemistry business; coordinating the legal work for mergers and acquisitions; advising on antitrust aspects of business arrangements; serving as DuPont’s chief environmental counsel; and serving as Vice President and Chief Intellectual Property Counsel.

Upon returning to Salt Lake City, he became an adjunct professor of law at Brigham Young University where for the past eight years he has taught courses on patent law, intellectual property/antitrust law and biotechnology law and ethics for the last eight years.

At his law firm, Mr. Rice is active in entrepreneurship activities and is associated with entrepreneur/innovation programs at Utah State University, Brigham Young University, the State of Utah and Grow Utah Ventures. He is admitted to practice in the Virginia State Bar.
