Biography

State Representative Becky Lockhart is a strong supporter of Utah’s conservative standards and a proud protector of traditional family values.

She is a fiscal conservative and believes tax revenues belong to the citizens, not the government. The legislature must exercise fiscal responsibility and allow taxpayers to keep more of their hard-earned money. For her diligent efforts to rein in spending and for her calls for government accountability, she has been named multiple times as a “Friend of the Taxpayer” by the Utah Taxpayers Association, and by the NFIB as a “Guardian of Small Business.” Her efforts contributed to the state of Utah being designated as the Best Managed State in the nation.

That fiscally prudent position has allowed our state to weather the economic downturn better than many states throughout the country and will allow us to recover more quickly as well.

Education is an important priority. While serving her terms in the Legislature, education received two significant funding increases. Even through the difficult economic downturn, she fought to hold education harmless. She believes that control of schools belongs to the parents and districts.

In an effort to further economic growth and solve long-term transportation planning, Representative Lockhart was the driving force increased funding and commitment to transportation infrastructure across the state of Utah, including the expansive I-15 project currently underway. She played a key role in helping to secure funding for the Provo Airport expansion and radar projects.

Rep. Lockhart currently serves as the majority assistant whip and has previously served as chair of the rules committee and as vice-Chair of the Executive Appropriations Committee. Her legislative interests include Transportation, Health Care, and Health Insurance, Law enforcement and Education. She has served on the Public Education Appropriations Subcommittee, House Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Committee, House Workforce Services Committee, Community and Economic Development Committee, Transportation and Education Standing Committees and the Environmental Quality and National Guard Appropriations Subcommittee.

She believes it is a great honor to represent the people of District 64. She will continue to work to balance the budget, keep the stability of individuals and families a priority, work to push back the influence of the Federal Government from encroaching on our state and local governments and work to establish prudent and accountable legislative efforts that position Utah to remain strong.

Rep. Lockhart is a registered nurse holding a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University. She is married to Stan Lockhart and has three children, Hannah, Emily, and Stephen. When she has free time she enjoys reading and quilting.
