The Jon M. Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University is fast becoming one of the premiere business schools in the western United States. Our student body is diverse and international, with students from over 30 foreign countries enrolled in the business school.
What makes our MSHR program exceptional? It is the strategic, performance driven, perspective that undergirds each of our courses. A masters trained HR professional must understand not just the “what” of human resources – but also the “why.” They must understand the systems, processes and levers that yield competitive, talent-driven performance in the firm. Beyond this – it is the competence, commitment and passion of our faculty – and students. We (faculty and students combined) form a productive, caring yet demanding, learning community. We are driven by a desire to see professional growth in all who participate. We expect ever-increasing opportunities for our graduates. We expect to a build sense of family as we work and learn together. We expect to develop life-long friendships and to stay connected over time. This is the tangible, yet intangible “secret sauce” that imbues the program.
Our Graduates Get JobsDespite the economy, Huntsman students are getting jobs! Seventy-three percent of our graduates from 2010-11 found full-time employment within three months of graduation, with an average starting salary of $65,000. All graduates found work within six months of graduation.
Key employers from the most recent graduating class include: Goldman Sachs, Honeywell, Rio Tinto, Disney, etc.
The Huntsman School of Business provides multiple avenues for students looking to start their job search, including Career Accelerators, Career Services, and the Internship Office. The MSHR program also provides an 8 week career workshop free of charge for its students. The workshop provides insight on resume development, interviewing skills, networking, elevator pitches and more. It culminates with a visit to Salt Lake City where HR Executives volunteer to interview the students and provide immediate feedback. Last year we had 21 HR Executives and 15 students attend, so each student was able to participate in a minimum of 6 mock interviews.
